Effect of nicotinic acid on the incorporation of radiocarbon into cholesterol.

چکیده

FOLLOWING the lead of Altschul, 1 a number of investigators have established that nicotinic acid depresses the serum cholesterol. A previous report indicated that inclusion of nieotinic acid in experimental diets fed to rabbits partially prevented the anticipated rise in serum cholesterol, prevented cholesterol deposition in the aorta and, to a lesser extent, cholesterol deposits in the liver. I t was emphasized that the mechanism whereby nicotinic acid altered serum and tissue cholesterol was unknown. It was pointed out, however, that the large number of methyl groups required for the excretion of nicotinic acid might alter cholesterol synthesis.

CHOLESTEROL LOWERING EFFECT OF RHEUM RIBS IN HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIC RABBITS

The effects of ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Rheum ribs L. (RR) of the family polygonaceae was studied on serum cholesterol concentration in rabbits. To induce hypercholesterolemia, 0.5 g/kg/day of pure cholesterol powder was given orally to each rabbit for two weeks then cholesterol was halved and each group of animals was treated with a different regimen for another two weeks. Both t...

Alteration of Cholesterol Metabolism in the Rat with Linoleic Acid

When linoleic acid is added to the diet of the rat there is an average increase in incorporation of radiocarbon into liver cholesterol of 259 per cent. By contrast, the addition of coconut oil to the diet does not increase the incorporation of radiocarbon into liver cholesterol. The addition of linoleic acid to a stock diet is associated with an increased fecal excretion of Libernian-Burehard c...

O-16: Metabolism of Exogenous Fatty Acids, Fatty Acid-Mediated Cholesterol Efflux, PKA and PKC Pathways in Boar Sperm Acrosome Reaction

Background: For understanding the roles of fatty acids on the induction of acrosome reaction which occurs under association of cholesterol efflux and PKA or PKC pathways in boar spermatozoa, metabolic fate of alone and combined radiolabeled 14C-oleic acid and 3H-linoleic acid incorporated in the sperm was compared, and behavior of cholesterol and effects of PKA and PKC inhibitors upon fatty aci...

Effects of ethanolic extract of green tea on decreasing the level of lipid profile in rat

Objective: The aim of the present study was to elucidate the possible biochemical improving effect in lipid metabolic that may result from continuous treatment with Green Tea extract in normal albino rats and those rendered hyperlipidemic by long term supplementation of fat-enriched diet. Materials and Methods: Fifty male albino rats aged six weeks with 200±10 g weight were randomly divided int...
